Be Home by Dark

Be home by dark were my mother's words as morning brought new features. Don't roam too far, and watch for cars, don't hurt God's sweetest creatures. Have fun outside. Enjoy the view. Skip rocks, play tag, avoid kudzu. Head up the street to grab a friend. Go swing on vines, let your mind pretend. If invited for lunch, please mind your manners. Don't take the last cookie. Leave it on the platter. Be sure to say thanks for the tasty baloney, then go back outside to play with your homies. Be wise and strong as you enjoy nature's lark, but don't forget - be home by dark.
